History of the Manor
The Manoir d'Argentel was built at the end of the 17th century. From the 17th to the 20th century, it was successively called Château d'Argentelle (see 19th century photo), then Château d'Argentel and finally, Manoir d'Argentel.
Several members of the Le Provost de Miette family successively owned the estate (from at least 1739 to 1830).
Later, Louis-Adolphe, Baron Humbert de Molard, became the owner of the Château d'Argentelle. He is best known for the important role he played in the history of photography (which he became interested in as early as 1843). His photographic collections (mainly portraits, hunting scenes, and landscapes) are dispersed among the Musée Gatien Bonnet in Lagny-sur-Marne, the Musée Nicéphore Niépce, the Musée d'Orsay, the Bibliothèque Nationale, and the Société Française de la Photographie
